Dear Students and Parents:

We hope everyone is enjoying their summer and making the most of their vacation. This letter is to remind you that band camp is quickly approaching (Thursday, 8/1/19), and it is time to begin our attack on learning this year’s half-time show! I know that you veterans will make the newcomers feel welcome and a part of the band and you will continue to build your relationships with each other while working hard toward a common goal. Please arrive to the HS Auditorium your first day.

Take the time to look through the information that has been provided for you in this blog.

There is a lot of information here, so please take time to read everything to avoid not being prepared or forgetting something (your black/dark shorts, white T Shirt, closed toes shoes, or even your instrument, music, binder and flip folder). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE communicate with your parents what is going on so we’re all on the same page.

Here are a few reminders for you. First, make sure you have completed your camp payments and turned in/mailed all your necessary forms. Secondly, don’t forget to arrange for a ride to and from camp. Be sure to go over the check list very carefully to make sure you have made the necessary purchases and are prepared for that camp. If you need any of the forms given out in May please visit the https://marvinridgehighband.blogspot.com/

All parents are encouraged to attend our performance in the football stadium. Our performance on Thursday will take place at 6:30 pm and will prove to be very enjoyable. Call time will be 6:00 pm and students will be formally dismissed from band camp following the performance/pot luck dinner.

If you have any questions or concerns, please text at 704-661-1278. I will be in and out of the building throughout July so the best way is to contact me is by text or email at keith.james@ucps.k12.nc.us.

We have a very busy fall planned for your child. In my experience, the cornerstone of any successful marching band program is commitment and dedication from both the students and parents. While we would ideally love to have all our MRHS musicians in the marching band, we understand that some students just cannot put forth the time and commitment necessary to benefit the group. This is a team sport, and it is expected that all students be at every rehearsal and performance, on time and well prepared. We expect that each student will give 100% effort at all times, in order to make this the most successful and enjoyable marching experience for everyone.

Again, I’d like to personally welcome each of you to this 2019 MRHS Marching Band season. I look forward to fostering musical and personal growth during our pursuit of excellence. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Musically yours,

Keith James
